PRACTICE INFORMATION

1) Training and Degrees: In 1979 I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Bible College (Birmingham, Ala.) with a minor in Christian Education. In August 1986 I received a Masters of Education degree from Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson, Miss.) with an emphasis in school administration. In May 1997 I received a Masters of Arts Degree in Pastoral Counseling and Psychology form Houston Baptist University.

2) Experience: I served in Christian schools as teacher/administrator for 15 years. I was a staff Pastoral Counselor at Second Baptist Church, served three years with Christian Counselors of Houston during internship and early licensure. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 6 years. If you have any questions concerning my credentials please ask and/or request a copy of my vitae.

3) Counseling purposes, goals and techniques: The first and final authority for all my work is the Word of God, the Bible. I seek to integrate responsible psychological principles with Scriptural principles. I serve individuals, couples and groups. My theoretical approach is eclectic utilizing interpersonal, cognitive, Gesalt, cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, psychodynamic, and affective methods. The goal is to achieve mental, emotional, physical, social, moral and spiritual development that adjusts throughout the life span. Additionally, testing, assessing and appraising will utilize formal and informal instruments and procedures, for which I have received the appropriate training.

4) Boundaries: It is my practice to set and maintain professional boundaries. Dual relationship with clients is prohibited. A dual relationship is considered any non-counseling activity initiated by either the licensee or the client for the purpose of establishing a non-therapeutic relationship.

5) Referral: If necessary I shall terminate the counseling relationship when it is reasonably clear that you are not benefiting from the relationship. When professional counseling is still indicated, I shall take reasonable steps to facilitate the transfer to an appropriate referral or source. Clients may obtain a second opinion from another mental health professional and/or may discontinue therapy at any time.

6) Consultation: In an attempt to gain other perspectives and ideas as how to best help you reach your goals, I have regular consultation with other professionals regarding clients with whom I am working. Such consultations are conducted with complete confidentiality. No "identifying information" is shared in these consultations.

7) Professional Development: In order to facilitate professional development and quality counseling, I submit myself to supervision as necessary. I also maintain state mandated Continuing Education Units to assure the client receives fresh perspectives and benefits from current research.
