Sarah Myers, LPC

My Mission: I strive to give children, teens, and adults their own space where they feel safe, validated, supported, and empowered. Together, we will work on healing, self-compassion, and gaining an understanding of yourself, your specific needs, and how to meet those needs in healthier ways. I will support you in utilizing your strengths and in exploring and developing new skills that are crucial to your growth and well-being. Through this work you should find an improved relationship with yourself as well as others, leading to a happier and more fulfilling life.

My Focus: My focus is in working with individuals that are struggling to cope with and manage their emotions in healthy ways; this can be related to a variety of issues ranging from daily stressors to unresolved trauma. In children, these struggles often cause them to feel overwhelmed and result in behavioral problems at school or in the home (trouble following directions, angry outbursts, fighting with other children/siblings or parents, etc.) I also provide support to parents seeking to learn new ways of helping their children thrive.

My Experience: I attended the University of Houston for my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies as well as for my subsequent master’s degree in clinical counseling (Go Coogs). As a counselor, I have gained experience and training in the world of play therapy but enjoy and continue to work with individuals of all ages from different walks of life.

Prior to counseling, I worked at Launch Academy, a private school for adolescents with disabilities (specifically autism) for 5 years. Through that work, I was able to acquire experience in helping children with unique needs and abilities in utilizing their strengths to thrive as well as combat and manage their weaknesses This also included assistance with social skills, regulating emotions/behavior as well as working with parents to support their children as they prepare for the real world.

The experiences that brought me to want to work in the field of counseling have been prevalent throughout my life in many ways. I have always had a passion for helping others, which started with animals, then spawned into human beings. As a child and teen transitioning through family related issues and struggling with my own anxiety, I began therapy of my own. This helped me profoundly in ways I could have never imagined. I found myself going to therapy for what I thought was my presenting concern, which then turned into a domino effect of improvement in so many other areas that led to a healthier and happier me. I have experienced the magic of therapy and know first hand that a good therapeutic relationship and taking space for yourself can be life changing.

About Me: I am a native Texan with a big family (birth, adoptive, and step). I am a very patient, empathetic, and chipper person; I love talking to and connecting with people. My main interests include animals of all kinds, creative and artistic expression, music, table and video games, and wildflowers (especially dandelions).
