Emilio Gonzalez, Jr., MA, LPC
My mission:
As we move through life there are times when our experience and resilience are challenged and we need someone in to listen and help us understand a different perspective. My mission is to assist adolescents and adults in regaining balance moving forward.
My experience:
I have been an elementary and high school counselor for over 20 years as well as working with adults in an outpatient hospital setting. I have worked with children, teens and adults to help them with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts and self-confidence. My approach is cognitive-behavioral and believe in the connection between thoughts and feelings but understand that we have to be in the right place emotionally in order to process our thoughts and feelings. I am interested in and utilize strategies from theories of Existential, Positive Psychology and Brief-Solution Therapy.
About me:
I was born and raised in Laredo, Texas and moved to Austin to attend college and study art before relocating to Houston upon graduation in the early 1990’s. I have been married to a wonderful wife for over 25 years and we have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. I have worked and a bilingual/ESL teacher, art teacher and school counselor for 27 years. During that time, I have continued my artwork. I believe it is an excellent means to process thoughts, feelings, and work continually to grow in my understanding of people. I am constantly exploring researched, evidenced based strategies in Positive Psychology.
My education and credentials:
I have a BA and BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters in Counseling from Sam Houston State University.
Areas: Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Interpersonal relationships, and Anger.
